What is housing need?

Housing need is often referred to as “priority” or “preference”. All households are assessed to determine who is in most urgent housing need and then awarded a band such as Emergency, High, Medium or Low, this may also be, Band 1, 2, 3 or 4. There are many elements which make up how a persons ‘need’ is decided, such as disabilities, number of people in the household etc.

How do I know if I am classed as being in housing need?

You will be assessed when you apply for a home and advised by Oldham Council if you are in housing need and at what level - Band 1, Band 2, Band 3 or Band 4.

Will I have to re-register with Oldham Council to apply for a home?

No, you do not need to re-register.

Anyone in housing need on FCHO’s Housing Register before 30 September will automatically be transferred onto Oldham Council’s Housing Register. They will also retain their MyMove Oldham account and have access to ready to let homes on a first come first served basis.

Those without housing need registered before 30 September won’t be transferred to Oldham Council but will retain their MyMove Oldham account and have access to ready to let homes on a first come first served basis.

I applied a while ago and was on the FCHO waiting list. What has happened to my application now?

Anyone with a live application up to 30 September will retain their MyMove Oldham account and have access to ready to let homes on a first come first served basis through the MyMove Oldham site. If you had an assessed housing need, your application will also be automatically transferred onto Oldham Council’s Housing Register, you will receive an email link with new login details to Oldham Council’s site. Once you’ve received this, you will be able to bid for all available homes in Oldham the same as you previously have on our website.

Can I still search and bid on a home through MyMove?

You can request a MyMove Oldham account and have access to some of our ready-to-let homes from 30 September. These homes will have been initially advertised via the Council’s Housing Options property advert and if they were not successfully let from that advert will be displayed on the MyMove Oldham site and will be available on a first come first served basis.

I don't have a statutory housing need. Can I still apply for a home?

You can request a MyMove Oldham account and have access to some of our ready-to-let homes from 30 September. These homes will have been initially advertised via the Council’s Housing Options property advert and if they were not successfully let from that advert will be displayed on the MyMove Oldham site and will be available on a first come first served basis.

I have already bid on a number of FCHO homes through the MyMove website. What will happen to these bids?

Any bids for properties advertised before 30 September will be retained for use on the MyMove Oldham site until the property is let successfully.

What happens to my application when it goes over to Oldham Council. Do I go to the bottom of their list?

No, anyone in housing need on FCHO’s Housing Register before 30 September will automatically be transferred onto Oldham Council’s Housing Register and placed in an equivalent level of need in line with Oldham Council’s Allocations Scheme.

I was on FCHO’s housing list and I have a housing need. How will I know if I have been transferred to Oldham Council’s housing register?

You have automatically been transferred onto Oldham Council’s Housing Register and be contacted by Oldham Council in due course with further information on your application and advice on how to bid for properties.
